Does a flammable cabinet need to be grounded?
Aside from grounding Class 1 liquids, there aren’t any regulations which require you to ground your flammable cabinet, however, it can be safer and more convenient to do so. For instance, choosing to ground your flammable storage cabinet is advised if you will be performing dispensing or collection processes in the cabinet (i.e pouring waste into a drum funnel). In some cases, manufacturers will provide you with a grounding screw on their flammable storage cabinets and these can be connected to a building ground.READ MORE

COSHH Cabinets – Does your business need them?
COSHH stands for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health. They are a set of guidelines introduced by the HSE to ensure businesses store and handle chemicals in a safe way.
It’s likely your business will use hazardous chemicals whatever industry you’re in. These come in many forms, but the most common are cleaning products. Many cleaning products contain corrosive agents such as sodium hydroxide and sodium hypochlorite (bleach) that can permanently burn eyes and skin - some can be fatal if ingested.
The COSHH cabinet allows these chemicals to be stored in clearly labelled, lockable cupboards that only authorised staff can access with the appropriate PPE equipment if required.
Dangerous substances can come in many forms from vapour or gasses to flammable chemicals or biological agents. Each substance will need to be stored differently – your business will need to assess the risk of the chemical and put in place controls for safe handling and storage.
What can you store in our COSHH cabinets?
Before you decide on the type of COSHH cabinet you need, you should carry out a COSHH assessment in the business and think about:
What chemicals you currently use and how much you need to store?
Check the manufacturers guidelines on how to store each chemical.
Do you have any measures in place at present?
Do certain chemicals need to be segregated?
What COSHH labelling do you need?
How many cabinets do you need? There will be restrictions on the amount of a substance you can store in one particular location.
Do you need a cabinet which helps prevent release or leakage?
Flammable Material COSHH Cabinets
Our flammable storage cabinets are designed for flammable chemicals, which can come in liquid, gas or solid form. The cabinets are supplied with a flammable substance COSHH warning label and are typically yellow.
Our bestselling cabinet is constructed from 0.9mm steel which is designed to maintain its integrity during the early stages of fire. It has perforated shelves to drain any leaks into the sump tray at the bottom - which can easily be emptied. The shelves are also height adjustable to accommodate different sized containers.
The COSHH cupboards come in a wide range of sizes including small wall mounted cabinets perfect for aerosols to large cupboards for bigger containers.
When choosing a cabinet you need to make sure you adhere to the chemical guidelines on how much of a substance you can store in one place, but also be mindful that you need enough room to move things in and out without this also being a hazard. If the items are crammed in, it may be difficult to remove and add containers. The bestselling cabinet can hold a maximum 50 Litres of chemical substance.
Hazardous Storage Cabinets
Most of our hazardous storage cabinets come in grey with 5 hazardous substance COSHH labels depending on the substance you want to store. These include ‘Harmful Substances’, 'Health Hazard', 'Acute Toxicity', 'Corrosive' and 'Acute Toxicity' labels. There is a wide range of sizes to choose from with the larger cabinets offering leak proof sumps to contain spillages.
Please be advised the substance should be reviewed and any guidelines for storage followed in addition to use of the cabinets.
Acid/Alkali COSHH Cabinets
The acid/alkali cabinets are suitable for mildly corrosive chemicals. They come with the appropriate COSHH warning labels for corrosive substances and the steel construction is coated with zinc for optimum corrosion resistance.
For something a little more fire resistant, the Justrite cabinets are the best choice. The cabinets are extra strong, sturdy & secure. They are FM approved, high performance and designed to withstand fire for a minimum of 10 minutes. Justrite Cabinets meet OSHA & NFPA 30 - Exceeding COSHH Standards
The cabinets will keep the flammable and combustible fluids stored inside from reaching spontaneous combustion for at least a minimum of 10 minutes. This allows time for employees to leave the premises and the sprinkler system to help put out the fire.
