To help you choose the right type of spreader and salt for the task at hand, we have created a list of some of the spreaders and types of salt we sell, and suggestions as to what they would be best used for.

Useful Kits

If you don’t have any products you might require this winter, here are a few of our starter kits to get you on track and prepared!

Grit Bin, Spreader & Shovel Kit – This kit is ideal for use in private roads and car parks. It contains a 196ltr grit bin, our best-selling 30kg capacity spreader, a shovel, and 5 x 25kg bags of de-icing salt…. Everything you might need!

Mega Grit Bin & Salt Kit – this kit is very useful if you have a large area to keep clear of ice and snow, as it gives plenty of storage for a large amount of salt. It contains 2 x 396ltr grit bins and 40 x 25kg bags of rapid ice melt with grip aid. (See below for information on ice melt with grip aid).

Mini Grit Bin Kit – this mini kit is great for gritting driveways and steps. It contains a 30ltr lockable grit bin, a bag of 25kg of rock salt, and a useful plastic scoop.

Useful Products

De-icing Salt – this is made from white marine salt, it is fast acting on ice and snow. It can be used in most of the spreaders we sell here at Key and it spreads easily without blocking up your spreader.

Rapid Ice Melt with Grip Aid – this contains marine salt but has added grip aid for additional traction, making it even more effective than de-icing salt on its own. The grip aid will also continue to work even when the salt has dissolved. It is a light grey colour, so you can clearly see the areas you have covered.

10kg Ice Melt – this is an alternative to de-icing salt and is very economical as it provides more coverage than salt. It quickly dissolves frost, snow, and ice accumulation, and helps prevent further build-up. It is easy to use and leaves no residue.

30kg Medium Duty Spreader – this spreader has a 30kg capacity and is ideal for keeping small areas like walkways clear of snow and ice. It is built for regular use and you can use both salt and ice melt in this spreader. It has a spread width of 1.8-3m, depending on which material you use.

36kg Heavy Duty Spreader – this spreader has similar features to the one mentioned above, but it is designed for more heavy-duty use, so can be used in places like car parks. It has pneumatic tyres, making it appropriate for rough terrain. The spread width for this spreader is a width of 2.4-4.5m, depending on which material you use.

Hand Spreader – this hand spreader is perfect for tackling smaller jobs, like walkways leading into buildings, and small places hard to reach with a big spreader. It can be used with both salt and ice melt and has a rotary design that can throw salt up to 2m. Its great scoop design means you can scoop the material out of the bag straight into the spreader. A little bonus to this spreader is it can also be used for things like seed and fertilizer throughout the rest of the year…. two uses in one!
